Every client asks what happens immediately after of filing for divorce, particularly if there will be any changes in the way the family runs its finances. For example:

Who is now responsible for the payment of the mortgage, rent, utilities, children’s extracurricular activities, food, vehicles, pets, etc., etc.

The answer is there will be no immediate changes. Both parties should maintain the “status quo”, meaning, the state of affairs existent at the time of filing. Nothing should change, all should remain the same, until further order of the Court or agreement of the parties
